The Water Research Foundation (WRF) is the leading research organization advancing the science of all water to meet the evolving needs of its subscribers and the water sector. WRF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, educational organization that funds, manages, and publishes research on the technology, operation, and management of drinking water, wastewater, reuse, and stormwater systems—all in pursuit of ensuring water quality and improving water services to the public.
WRF was formed in 2018 through the integration of three highly respected research collaboratives: WateReuse Research Foundation, Water Environment Research Foundation, and Water Research Foundation. Separately, these organizations focused on research to support varied segments of the water sector—water reuse, wastewater and stormwater, and drinking water, respectively.
The Water Environment Research Foundation formed in 1989, is America’s leading independent scientific research organization dedicated to wastewater and stormwater issues. Over the past 20 years they have produced 300 research reports, valued at over $62 million.
The American Water Works Association is an international, nonprofit, scientific and educational society dedicated to providing total water solutions assuring the effective management of water. Founded in 1881, the Association is the largest organization of water supply professionals in the world.
Our membership includes over 4,300 utilities that supply roughly 80 percent of the nation’s drinking water and treat almost half of the nation’s wastewater. Our 51,000 total members represent the full spectrum of the water community: public water and wastewater systems, environmental advocates, scientists, academicians, and others who hold a genuine interest in water, our most important resource.
AWWA also takes great pride in helping establish three preeminent organizations dedicated to safe water, the Water Research Foundation in 1966, Water For People in 1991 and Water Equation in 2015. AWWA unites the diverse water community to advance public health, safety, the economy, the water workforce and the environment.
The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization of more than 30,000 individual members and 75 affiliated Member Associations (MAs) representing water quality professionals around the world. Since 1928, WEF and its members have protected public health and the environment. WEF and its global network of members and member associations provide water quality professionals around the world with the latest in water quality education, training, and business opportunities. WEF’s diverse membership includes scientists, engineers, regulators, academics, utility managers, plant operators, and other professionals. WEF uses this collective knowledge to further a shared goal of improving water quality around the world.
WEF is operating under a new Strategic Plan built on the vision of a life free of water challenges. Our ultimate goal is a world where each person has access to clean water and sanitation, where communities prosper, and where nature thrives. The key strategic goals under the new Strategic Plan are: 1) to attract and develop a diverse and passionate workforce; 2) to cultivate a purpose-driven community to sustainably solve water challenges for all; and 3) to lead the transformation to the circular water economy.

The first such center, the NM EFC was established to assist the states of EPA Region 6 (New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana).
We believe water is the best investment the world can make to improve health, empower women, enable access to education, increase family income and change lives. Yet, 2.2 billion people lack access to safe water. We’re working to change this. Water.org is a global nonprofit organization working to bring water and sanitation to the world.
The International Water Association is the network of water professionals striving for a world in which water is wisely, sustainably and equitably managed.
Drawing exceptional professionals from more than 140 countries, the membership of the International Water Association (IWA) brings together scientists, researchers, technology companies, water and wastewater utilities, and wider stakeholders involved in water management.
As the largest membership association for the global water sector, the Association was launched in its current identity in 2000, building on a 75-year heritage of connecting water professionals around the world. IWA is an international reference for the water and sanitation industry.
Water For People is an international nonprofit motivated by the belief that water is a human right. Our goal is to bring water, sanitation, and hygiene services to everyone, and to make sure those solutions last forever.
We are working toward this ambitious goal by partnering with local community members, businesses, and governments, helping them bring sustainable water and sanitation systems to their communities. Then we ensure they have the training and tools they need to maintain those systems for generations.
In addition to our team members in the US and our partner organization in Canada, we have teams in nine countries: Bolivia, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, India, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
We spend years, not days, in districts – working until every family, clinic, and school has safe, reliable water and sanitation services.

Asset management is not a new practice. Managing assets to meet organizational or social objectives has existed since humans first began building infrastructures, whether private or public.
CNAM is the association of public infrastructure asset management in Canada. Our government and private sector members develop policy, tools and technologies which improve the level of service for public infrastructure assets in every province and territory. CNAM shares that knowledge with other members and stakeholders through our CNAMpedia online resource, the annual conference and various committees and events.
Municipal infrastructure is the foundation for a healthy and vibrant city. Many municipalities define assets to include all physical infrastructure that is necessary to support the social, economic and environmental services provided by the corporation. These asset types include, but are not solely limited to, tangible assets such as buildings, engineering structures, roads, parks, transit, IT networks, water and wastewater systems and intangible assets such as land, software, data and intellectual property.
Municipal Infrastructure Asset Management (MIAM) means the practices, principles and theories in the management of municipal infrastructure assets. While the practice includes the professional areas of risk, finance, engineering, economics and information management, Asset Management practitioners are business strategists who consider themselves “generalists” in each of these specialties and not specialists in any single one.
Canadian Water Network is an independent non-profit with a purpose of getting communities closer to the future they want by accelerating, advancing and improving water management decisions.
We are motivated by the need for aligned and meaningful connections across the water sector and beyond, particularly other sectors with related and adjacent interests, to achieve progress on complex environmental, social and economic challenges.
